Exploring In Michigan

We've had a lot of fun exploring new places with the friends we've made here in Michigan.  We've discovered Stony Creek MetroPark, Spencer Park, and the Oakland Mall Play Area.  However, I keep forgetting my camera!! UGH!!  Well, when we were invited to come to Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn with the Lund family I made sure my camera was the first thing in my bag.  I took several pictures but when I got home I realized I missed several of the coolest things we saw and that I'm just going to have to go back again sometime...perhaps several times.

Greenfield Village is a historic experience.  You can tour all the old buildings brought here from around the country by Henry Ford including his home where he was born, Thomas Edison's Idea Factory,  and The Wright Brother's home and cycle shop.  We rode in a model-T! You can also ride a train or a carriage or an old bus! It was really fun to see all the people dressed up in period clothing and telling us all about life 300 years ago.

The neatest part, for me anyway, was that for the past few months I've been reading the Little House on the Prairie series to the kids at night and while we were at the village today the young Laura Ingalls was there to tell us all about life in her Little Town.  She told us all about how she worked in a store to earn money to send her sister, Mary, to a special school for the blind, how she got her teaching license, and how she met Almanzo Wilder - the man she would one day marry.  The girl telling the story was really talented and I was so busy watching her that I forgot to take her picture.  Oh, well.  Meg thought it was fun to see a farm just like Almanzo lived on (we're currently reading Farmer Boy in the series).

After the village we saw a small part of the Henry Ford Museum.  We saw the Oscar Meyer Wiener-Mobile and several important pieces of Americana.  It was a very fun and very long day for us.  I'm determined now to get a family pass so we can go back again and again because this was just so fun and cool and educational for us.
